CYLINDERS FOR MOTORHOMES

Energy and efficiency are top concerns today. And that naturally affects the camper and motorhome world. It does so because they are recreational vehicles that use energy and must be self-sufficient for a period of time, and hence concerns derived from their consumption. Is it inexpensive and environmentally friendly enough? What type of gas is the most recommended?

Butane is a perfect option for conserving heat in our great little apartment on wheels. It is vital that the motorhome is well insulated to avoid excessive consumption, but we must bear in mind that once we are out on an excursion the conditions do not have to be favorable all the time. At COMERCIAL CARAVANING we can advise you to have a perfect vacation.

And precisely for all this, butane (the most common) and also propane are excellent energy options, in both cases due to their economy and autonomy.

C4H10, better known as butane, is a colorless, odorless liquefied gas composed of carbon and hydrogen. Propane, very similar (C3H8), however has slightly different characteristics that make it somewhat less common. And we also have LPG, which is used as an energy source to move vehicles, including trucks or buses.

Butane has greater power to generate heat, but at the same time less resistance at low temperatures. It freezes earlier than propane under certain conditions and is therefore less recommended if we travel to very cold places.

There are several models of bottles for motorhomes. The 12 kilos is ideal if we are going to make continuous use of gas, and its use can be prolonged for several weeks. The Repsol K6 cylinder is lighter (half) and consequently lasts less, but it also costs more: approximately 18.7 euros. We also have the 11 kg cylinder. Prices fluctuate too easily on these dates.

For proper operation and to avoid problems, we recommend an authorized installer and follow the inspection schedule. Of course, a pressure regulator is placed at the gas inlet in the motorhome. It is placed after the cylinder connection valve. There is even the possibility of double entry facilities to be able to travel through several countries with peace of mind.

Refilling a small blue Campingas bottle, which by the way is universal throughout Europe, has a similar sturdy for a capacity that does not reach 3 kilos, but it can be very useful in certain situations.

Both power models require a similar installation: an installation in copper and with independent keys. We must bear in mind that each country has different legislation in this regard, so we will have to know what they think of our cylinder wherever we go. You have to hold the bottles very well while the vehicle is running and close the regulator if we are going to park the camper for a long period of time. Finally, take care that the environment is always well ventilated. These are simple and basic security measures more than enough to never have any problems.
