Italy by caravan: an unforgettable and unique getaway to the north

If you are one of those who, instead of starting the new year with resolutions that we all know are doomed to fail, have promised yourself an unforgettable trip, you are in the right place. How about knowing Italy by caravan?

Along with this article where we travel through northern Italy, don't miss the articles that we will publish this February (on the 18th and on the 28th) about routes through central Italy and routes to follow in Sicily. Thus, we will travel the whole country with a caravan recommending the best corners, roads ... We will propose this same format of articles with other European countries such as France, Sweden or Portugal. If there is a particular route or route that you would like us to discuss in this blog, leave us a comment at the end of this post and we will study it.

And now, let's go on a trip!

Imagine that you have a few days off, that you want to do a different getaway, that you want to pamper yourself and that the trip has to be unique. Imagine that those are your requirements ... Imagine that you can also post photographs on your networks like those trips that you usually admire in others. Imagine for a moment that this time you will be the protagonist.

Now stop imagining and let's take action. Do you dare to travel the north of Italy in a caravan?  That is your journey and that is the journey we have imagined to get here. Let's go over a few important aspects before you close your suitcase. Prepared?

The inescapable stops on the trip of your dreams

One of the essential stops is The Dolomites. All travelers agree that it is a wonder of nature and a luxury for the senses. Declared World HeritageIt will be a magnificent opportunity to see these incredible mountains that, according to geologists, were originally coral atolls submerged in water thousands of years ago.

If you dare to visit them, don't miss the opportunity to see Lago di Caldonazzo, 30 kilometers from Trento, he Valle di Fiemme at the exit of the same city or the Cavalese waterfall.

VeneziaMilan or the Lake Como They must be on your caravan route. Essential stops in northern Italy where you should not miss visiting the Garda lake.

In the latter case, you should know that nothing of tranquility is what you will find there; in fact, it is a very lively area surrounded by beautiful municipalities with tourism all year round. In Garda you should see the Medieval Castle and the ruins of the ancient Roman villa.

Italy by caravan: things to consider on your trip

In addition to the mandatory stops, traveling by caravan means being up to date on issues that may vary from one country to another and that you should know to avoid inconveniences and unforeseen events. Go for it!

The best roads

Italian roads do not differ too much from Spanish roads, except if you are a tunnel lover. There you will have a great time driving, because you will see one after the other.

In Italy almost all motorways are toll roadsThis is why you will have to remove what is known as a vignette if you are going to use the highways. It is a kind of mandatory registration certificate that is attached to the glass of the vehicle and whose cost will depend on the stay or the type of vehicle.

Some legal curiosities

In addition to the mandatory and valid documentation for your caravan, be sure to carry your ID and your driving license. Do not forget that each country has different traffic regulations. In Italy it is mandatory to wear a reflective vest and a triangle.

In case of infringement, remember that outside of Spain you will have to pay the fine immediately; otherwise, they could immobilize your caravan.

Where to sleep

In this case, and although it is obvious that you will sleep in your caravan, it will be very positive that you consult in advance the areas where spending the night with your caravan is allowed. We recommend for this the ACSI guide.

If you are going to visit cities, consult where you can park your caravanItaly by caravan It is a great idea, among other things because it is at the forefront in Europe with regard to places prepared or equipped for itinerant tourism.

Good fortune and buon viaggio!

Since when is a vignette necessary in Italy to circulate on its highways? I was in 2017 and it was paid as in Spain

Aeneid

In Slovenia and Austria if a vignette is necessary, but in Italy not, at least cars and motorhomes are not
