Hello caravanings!

Who doesn't love good spring temperatures? It is no longer cold but it is not yet the stifling heat of July and August. Now, good weather brings with it something that is not usually very pleasant: insects everywhere.

Damn mosquitoes! They do not let us sleep and, in addition, they bite us. In addition, in the camping areas there are usually many more since you are in the middle of nature.

In this article we are going to see how to prevent them from entering the caravan, on the one hand, and how to avoid being bitten on the other. Shall we start?

1. How to avoid mosquitoes in the caravan

To prevent mosquitoes from entering the caravan, we must apply the same tricks that we use in our homes. After all, while you are on vacation the caravan is your home!

to. Close doors and windows

It seems obvious, but while you're camping sitting outside, keep your caravan windows closed. In this way, you make sure not only that no mosquitoes enter the house, but that no other undesirable tenant such as a grasshopper, wasp or cockroach does enter.

b. Install mosquito nets

This is one of the best ways to keep mosquitoes out of your bed. Install mosquito nets on each of the caravan windows. In addition to preventing mosquitoes from entering while you sleep, you can also enjoy your caravan with the light on and the windows open. All advantages!avoid-mosquitoes

c. Electric insecticide

Just like the one you have at home. Install an electrical insecticide in a plug in the caravan. If you have followed the two previous tips hopefully there are none inside, but if one has managed to sneak in with this trick you will avoid being bitten. They will be attracted to the insecticide and you will prevent them from coming after you.

d. Park away from the water

The highest concentration of mosquitoes is found in the surroundings of stagnant water, rivers or even swimming pools. When choosing a plot in the campsite, choose one that is not very close to these areas.

and. Citronella, a natural remedy

Citronella is the best plant to prevent mosquitoes from approaching. This plant contains an essence that not only repels mosquitoes but also prevents them from biting you.

F. Trap bottle

We have not tried it yet, but they say that thanks to this bottle you will naturally catch mosquitoes. You will need yeast, water, sugar, and a 2-liter plastic bottle. Can see the tutorial and follow the steps to create this simple home remedy.

2. How to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes

to. Avoid very dark or bright clothing

Although mosquitoes are guided mainly by smell, it seems that they also see. These are directed to the areas that are most out of tune with the environment, such as black, red or navy blue.

b. The alcohol

Who has not dined with a beer at the campsite while enjoying the fresh air? Well, you are more likely to get stung if you drink it. As we said, mosquitoes are guided by smell and always try to bite the sweetest they find. Beer raises blood ethanol levels and flying insects seem to like it.

c. The sweat

Another aspect that attracts mosquitoes is the smell that we can give off when we sweat. A good way to keep them away is to shower before going to sleep to prevent them from being attracted to our body odor.

d. Carbon dioxide

It seems that mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide that we expel when we breathe. Obviously, we cannot stop breathing at any time. We add this point here because the harder we breathe, the more likely we are to get stung.

and. Avoid sweet colonies

If you use perfume, try to make it as less sweet as possible since it also attracts the attention of mosquitoes. Try using cooler colognes of, for example, tangerine or green tea. Save the sweetest colonies for the winter.

3. I have already been bitten, what do I do to calm the itch?

to. Do not scratch yourself!

We know. It seems like the typical comment they used to say to us when we were little, saying "don't scratch yourself, it's worse." What happens is that it is true! By scratching we spread the poison that the mosquito has injected into us over an even wider area. Thus, the area that itches and stings us will be larger and… vicious circle! It will itch us more and we will try to scratch more and more. If you can't stand it, pat yourself on the bite.

b. Put ice

It's not that the ice will eliminate the poison you already have, but the ice will numb the area and thereby greatly reduce the itchiness you have. You sleep the skin, you sleep the itch.avoid-mosquitoes

c. Toothpaste

We have not tried this technique yet but they say it is quite useful. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to the bite and allow it to dry.

d. Medication if you are allergic

If you see that after the bite the swelling is large, it is likely that there has been some type of allergic reaction. Always have an antihistamine medicine in the caravan medicine cabinet that will reduce the size of the inflamed area and will calm you down a lot. If you have an antihistamine ointment you can apply it on the bite (always read the leaflet in both cases).

And you, what tricks do you follow to avoid mosquitoes when camping? Leave us a comment with your tips that will surely give ideas to other caravanning enthusiasts.

Until the next article!
