Hello caravaners!

Obviously, you have been able to verify that autumn has already arrived and it seems to stay. We can forget about the tips we saw for get the heat out of the car and, for now, we don't have to remember either how to drive in snow. Now we care about one thing: how to drive in rain.

Perhaps it seems to you that in your autonomous community it does not rain too much, or perhaps you live in the north where it rains most of the year. Regardless of this and you are more or less used to driving in the rain, there are certain tips that we should never forget and can save us the odd unexpected scare. Shall we start?

Tips for driving in the rain

#1. Reduce speed

The first precaution to reduce the danger when driving in the rain is slow down the speed. If you usually drive at 90 kilometers per hour, reduce your speed to 80 or 70. When it is raining, visibility is lower and control over the vehicle is more complex than when driving on dry roads.

To slow down when it rains, never hit the brakes. To get slower slowly take your foot off the gas and let the car, by itself, slow down little by little.

#2. Do not brake hard

Closely related to the previous point, sudden braking can cause us to lose control over the vehicle. We have to ensure that all the movements we make with the vehicle (rain or not) are smooth, mild and without abruptness.

#3. The tires

The tire tread is not there just because, because the manufacturer wanted to make a network of grooves and lines to make the wheel more beautiful.

The brands that have all the tires of all vehicles serve, although it may not seem like it, to remove water from the road while driving in the rain.

Therefore, it is essential to keep the tread of the wheels and it is visible, and they are not smooth! Check the condition of your tires before embarking on a trip and if the tread is not barely perceptible it is time to change the wheels, especially to avoid the effect aquaplanning in season of heavy rains.

#4. Increase the safety distance

This point is fundamental. In the years that we have been behind the wheel at Comercial Caravaning, we have often come to the conclusion that the basic driving rule that is most violated is not maintaining the minimum safe distance, especially when overtaking.

We want to insist on this point because, regardless of whether it rains or not, it is of vital importance keep a distance from the vehicle in front that allows us to react and drive the car in case of sudden movement or accident. If we drive close to the car in front and it, for whatever reason, swerves or brakes, it is very likely that we will collide with it.

To ride safely, keep a distance of at least 70 meters in normal weather conditions and, in case you have to drive in the rain, we recommend that you extend this distance to at least 100 meters. This is not that we say it, it is that it has been shown that one of the main causes of accidents is the short distance we maintain with each other when driving.

IMPORTANT: keep the distance of 70 meters of separation without rain and increase to 100 in case of rain or snow

#5. Wiper in order

In addition to the wheels, another element of the vehicle that must work perfectly are the windshield wipers. Being the windshield wipers in perfect condition, visibility is already reduced in the event of rain, imagine if they did not work well.

Check that the brushes sweep all the water correctly and that it allows you to keep the crystals without water for as long as possible. Do not forget about the rear window wiper, which is also very important to be able to see correctly with the internal rear view mirror.

#6. The lights, always on

As you read it. It is important that you always have your lights on in case it is raining. Even if it's daytime? Yes, even if it is daytime.

The goal of having the lights on is more to be seen than to illuminate. During the day, if it is raining and we have the lights on, it will seem that they do not illuminate the road at all and that we are spending like crazy. However, especially when it rains very hard and a lot, the real visibility that we can see can be no more than one or two meters. How can we see that we have a car nearby that is going to overtake us, for example? If it has the lights on, it will be much easier to recognize it and realize where the cars around us are.

#7. Heated moons

One of the most annoying effects of rain on the car is the fact that the windows and windows are fogged. This fact significantly reduces visibility and complicates driving.

To avoid this, we will activate the option of thermal moon and she herself will unfold. However, to help the windows defrost faster we can point the hot air from the heater towards the windows to speed up the process.

#8. Avoid puddles and road markings

In addition to all of the above, it is important to avoid stepping on the road markings with the wheels because they slip. NOTE: avoid as long as possible, without making sudden movements with the steering wheel or disturbing the other vehicles that accompany us on the road.

On the other hand, if we see a puddle on the road it is a good precautionary measure to try to cross it as slowly as possible. The reason? In the first place we avoid splashing excessively around it and, secondly, we do not know how deep the puddle itself is and we can get a significant scare in case it is very deep.

#9. Do not stress

We put it last, but it is one of the most important tips. All drivers prefer to have a quiet trip without rain. When it is raining, you have to take extreme precautions, pay more attention to everything around you and be a little on alert.

But just as it rains on our caravan, it rains on other people's vehicles. That is why it is very important to stay calm, forget about the rush and the clocks and stay calm at the wheel.

The important thing is always to arrive!

We hope these tips for driving in the rain help you. If you have any questions you can leave us a comment and we will respond as soon as possible.

A hug caravaners!
